COMMUNITY CHAIR

problem faced : The community centers of Toronto have a wide range of different second-hand chairs. The problem is that these chairs don’t stack together, they are heavy, and are sometimes rusty and infected with bugs. It makes it difficult for the cleaning staff to store them or put them on tables while cleaning the floor. The idea behind the community chair is to design a simple chair made in Canada that will answer these issues and be assembled at the community center by the homeless in exchange of a salary.

how and why problem is solved : I helped FIG40 to develop the chair and produce the first batch of this community project. The chair is made of a single die cut wooden shell bolted to a metal frame structure, essentially making the chair out of only two elements, making it simple and light.
