Generated Rain: PCH Lighthouse

This is an original photo of Point Montara lighthouse in Northern California, taken from a vehicle while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway. While the wind was blowing hard and the sky was gray at the time this photo was taken, there was not a hint of rainfall. The rain that appears in this finished project was created in Photoshop. Creating rain in Photoshop began with a layer of solid black, and then a noise filter was applied to give the look of television static. The static had a blur applied to it, then its light/dark values (levels) were altered, and its size, angle, and opacity were changed in order to make it look like look like rain. This piece contains two layers of noise with two different angles applied to look more like real rain falling through the heavy winds.
