This original photo was set up, shot, and enhanced in Photoshop to emulate the cover image from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Live at Monterey album from 1967. This is a photo of a Jimi Hendrix action figure set up in a light box. The main technique on display in this project is superimposed fire. Conveniently, this action figure was designed to commemorate the moment when Jimi set his guitar on fire on the Stage at the Monterey Music Festival. The guitar that comes with the figure has fire rising from it that is sculpted from plastic. The plastic fire was removed from the image in Photoshop, and the fire that you see in the photo was brought in from a stock image found on 123rf.com, and adjusted to be believable in its new surroundings. A fiery color was strategically brushed and blended onto parts of the action figure to emulate the effect of light being cast from the fire onto this likeness of Jimi.
