Key Ring Remote - This products concept was created around the visual and physical qualities of polypropylene. The translucent nature allowed for the revilement of the internal components and the materials physical nature was exploited through the use of integrated switches and integral hinges.
Desktop Speakers - The concept of this product was to create a funky and youthful speaker that functioned well, not only in terms of its ideal function, acoustics, but also within its environment. To this end the products soft urethane outer cover enables it to be played with, even thrown. These inherent playful behaviors can help to relieve tension in an often all too stressful computer work environment.
Learning Station - The rendering was conceived to show off the various details of the design and the possibilities that the design would add to the overall project. As the design was focused on children the rendering showed off the toy like qualities and colors used as well as all of the interactive and ergonomic areas that became part of the final design
Survival Gear (Interieur 02) - This project was started in 2002 as a entry into the interieur, 18th International Biennial for interior design creativity. The theme for the Biennial was survival. The concepts shown show various concepts that would help avalanche victims, from compact self erecting tents and shovel shaped gloves, too survival knives. The concepts were accepted for exhibition in the New Fair Tales, young designers fair in Belgium.
Floor Standing Fan - The concept used strong vivid and playful design to utterly break the mold of all other competing products. The use of a complete cowling which had both the high-tech elements of aircraft design but also whimsical elements of 60’s design. The design was also made user friendly by consolidating the controls to one single control stick, turning the stick turned the fan on and off and adjusted the speed while pulling the control stick out from the fan engaged the oscillating

Duel Production Development See Saw - The project was designed around the needs of infants and small children and the final design had to employ two concepts, one to satisfy the commercial sector needs and one to satisfy the needs of impoverished local communities. The commercial design was built from locally source renewable commercial pine forests and standard furniture and wood fittings. The second concept was built from readily available recycled materials such as tires and rope. Both of these models where working prototypes.
Toy Design, Research Document - This project was started in 2003 at the Technikon of the Witwatersrand Product design course as a collaborative toy design workshop with N.I.D. from India. This booklet was designed to help show case the project from research and conceptualization through to testing and implementation.
Electric Toothbrush - The use of a distinct feminine form would help to differentiate the product in the market place. Functional additions to the design included a detachable battery that could be recharged without having to remove the toothbrush from the bathroom, a common complaint among users. The use of an almost entirely rubberized exterior along with the subtly twisted and flattened tube allowed for a wide range of grip positions, a must for this type product which is used in many different positions.

The relatively simple display and interface which consisted of three LED’s, a button and a card reader slot necessitated a simple and clean design that drew on existing design trends.The numbers of components was also kept to a minium while the entire product was built out of high volume and low cost plastic injected parts.

Interactive Display Stand - This was sheet metal component design created to help house and partly protect the public information points inside banks. The design required space for both a CPU, touch screen and bar-code scanner. The renderings were done to help the client chose between various concepts for production out of stainless steel.
Key Ring Remote - The designs primary focus was ergonomics, specifically looking at tactile references in the design to help the user navigate the remote’s simple interface without the need for eye contact. To this end the designs all used ways distinctly arranging the buttons in various patterns most often in specific form defined areas.
Optical Meter Reader - The optical meter reader is small portable device used to gather information from electricity meters. The design therefore had to be compact and ergonomic. An interface area was established through the use of a concave surface in which the LED’s and button where placed. The function LED’s were placed closely around the button for greater legibility. The optical reader also features an attachment point for a neck lanyard and a depressed, protected socket area for a USB interface cable.

Strike Enermax + Energy meter - The Enermax+ Energy meter is a fully programmable energy and demand meter for use in industrial and commercial environments.The meters design incorporated modular units that could be added and replaced in order to augment the meters functions and abilities in the field. The design of the enclosure also focused on improving the assembly process and cost reduction through component integration.
Slimline Energy Meter - The Enermax Slimline is the sister unit to the Enermax+. It is a slimed down and simplified energy and demand meter with applications in both the industrial and commercial sectors. The design of this enclosure focused on cost reduction through the use of shared components with Enermax+ and simplification of the assembly process.
Electrical Enclosures - The redesign of the junction box, which comprised a total of 20 model sizes, focused largely on improving the styling aspects of the box in order to help ABB create a distinct brand identity in the market place. Small improvements in the forms together with ABB’s focus on improved tooling helped to significantly reduce reject rates and keep the products competitively priced.

Both designs were highly individual and modern, yet there simple forms lent them to be adaptable to a large range of interior designs and finishes.

UEC Range Development Concepts - to help consolidate the product range and develop a concise product image . The concepts drew from previous successful products designed for UEC technologies and more recent concepts developed for new products. Each page shows three different form factors in a similar style which could be developed into various products to cover UEC’s entire range of products.
IXCS, Training Game - The game was co designed with the IXCS training division staff as a human scale game board that could be used by the customer service training specialists in the final phases of IXCS’s training program for final testing and reinforcement. The design used Fiber reinforced plastic bottoms that were stackable with foam rubber sandwiched between digitally printed fabric laminates. single sided fabric laminated foam rubber pieces were used to construct “game board” floor tiles.
Cell C, Community Telephone - Cell C was seeking to cement its control of the Community Service Telephone (CST) Market in South Africa. CST’s are offered as small scale entry level business packages for entrepreneurs who receive a cellular phone system that allows the business person to sell phone calls to customers anywhere in South Africa in a similar manor to a public payphone. The challenge was to create a stronger brand image and greater brand awareness for Cell C and their partners in the environment.

Exxaro Achievement Trophy - The trophy was meant as an achievement award for employees of Exxaro and as an inspirational and motivational icon inside the company. The very stylized molecule was developed form graphic capital designed for Exxaro’s internal use which the trophy needed to reflect. The design was also severely limited by cost. To this end a stylized molecule was developed by using sheet metal techniques.
Point of Sale Display Unit - The point of sale unit was developed to be a multimedia and pamphlet display for in store Nedbank branding initiatives. The design needed to be highly portable and easy to set up, dismantle and transport. The tension cables both stabilize the structure as well as provide a efficient componentized manner for mounting various elements including pamphlet holders, poster holders and multimedia displays.

Nedbank Cup, Soccer Trophy - The Trophy was designed as a part of the overall collateral package developed for Nedbank’s Nedbank Cup soccer tournament The final Trophy was fabricated using SLS components generated in Inventor most notably the central armature of the “soccer ball”. This was matched with components cast using a highly accurate and unique South African waxless casting technique in order to produce a highly accurate and durable trophy.
Nedbank Cup, Soccer Trophy Medals - The challenge for this design was to create a highly distinctive medal that would complement the Nedbank Cup trophy as well as display both the Nedbank Cup Sub-brand as well as the Nedbank Proto-brand proudly and in an aspirational manner. The design emulated an upside down representation of the Nedbank Cup Trophy while utilizing the graphic elements of the Nedbank Cup Logo.
Water Safety Corporation - Water safety needed a new line of products to package there already industry leading and trusted water filtration technology. Added to mix was clients need to make the installation of the product as flexible as possible. The above design uses a simplified base unit with more of the equipment packed into the replaceable cartridge. This would enable Water Safety to provide a greater deal of servicing to the units installed in the field.

Water safety needed a new line of products to package there already industry leading and trusted water filtration technology. Added to Water Safeties suite of technologies was the use of a UV water filtration system that needed to be as consumer friendly and tough as Water Safeties existing cartridge based products

Water Safety Corporation Frescapure 6000 - This project was started in conjunction with Design Annex for the Water Safety Corporation. While water safety were developing there new product line they asked us to help them refresh an existing product line reusing some of the components in order to reduce tooling costs. The result was the Frescapure 6000 range of water filters that could be configured into 3 separate products at the factory.
