Making a cup of coffee is normally seen as a boring process. Not now, experience Swatch Coffee Time, the new fun and engaging way to make a cup of coffee. With a range of colours and styling options to choose from, express your individulaity and add the Swatch Coffee Time to enhance your kitchen, there is one to suit everyone!
Instead of having a series of buttons to control the coffee machine, the user interacts with the coffee machine as you would do with a watch. So by twisting and pushing buttons the user can program the coffee machine. The design on the interface is important, the main parts of the interface include, coffee amount selction (alter by turning the little hand), indication when milk can be frothed, and an indication of water in the tank (shown by second hand).
The ‘Coffee Time’ coffee machine acts as the kitchen clock showing the correct time when it isn’t in use, when the user switches it on they must follow the process below to make their coffee. When switched on (1), both the little hand and second finger will move. The little hand will move to the last instruction it was given so either small or large cup (2). The second finger indicates the level of water left in the tank. The big hand always stays at its current position. If the user would like a different choice to what it is already at, they must use the crown to turn the little hand (3). Once the coffee has been dispensed, the little hand will indicate that the milk can now be steamed by moving to that icon, when ready the user must push the button to start the process. If the user choose to have an espresso ‘solo’ and therefore doesn’t need milk, after 30 seconds has passed without the button being pressed, the clock hands will return to their original position.
Standard colours; red, white and black
The ‘Swatch Styling’ database has been designed with the aim being to provide a wide range of styling choices for the user to choose from including options such as colour, pattern and interface deisgns. This will enable the user to style their own coffee machine, allowing them to express their individuality.
Pop of Colour: The user is able to choose from a range of colours, the 2 main options being a single coloured coffee machine or choosing multiple colours for separate parts to create their own design.
For the Love of Patterns: The user is able to choose from a range of patterns, the 2 main options being a single patterned coffee machine or combining colours and patterns for separate parts to create their own design.
Swatch Art: The Swatch Art options links the Coffee Time styling database to the Swatch Art website, which includes limited edition watches designed by both known and undiscovered artitsts. The user is able to view the watches within the collection, when choosing a specific watch, the artwork is reproduced onto the coffee machine, for yet another unique look.
Picture Time: This styling option incorporates one of Swatch’s apps, ‘Swatch Faces’ This app allows the user to take a photo of whatever they want, the app then picks 3 main colours out of the image, and suggests a watch based on the three colours highlighted. I think this is a fun way of styling, and therefore it has been included within the styling database. Instead of suggesting a watch the user may like, the colours will be used in the styling of the coffee machine, as shown below through the user process.
Clock Face: The user is given the option to style the interface of the coffee machine, from choosing interface designs all inspired by swatch watch interfaces, and adding colour to suit their overall aesthetics.
All interface designs have been inspired by swatch watch interfaces, the user is given multiple designs to choose from.

Swatch Coffee Time

New product opportunity project.

Swatch products excite emotion and give people the versatility to express an attitude. I believe that these values have been incorporated into the ‘Swatch Coffee Time’ coffee machine, the wide range of colours and individual styling options allows the uses to express an attitude, and convey their personality within this product.

The main feature, the clock face adds an element of fun interaction between the user and product, and seen as though the design is based around a watch, the clock face immediately creates an association between the product and the brand.

Everyone knows a Swatch when they see one, and I believe this can also be said for the Swatch Coffee Time coffee machine.
