SOCIAl DESIGN in INDIA: Initiatives, Challenges, & InnovationAssociateProfessor Neeta Verma 
The aim of this course is for students to understand social advocacy within a global context and understand their role as designers/co-creators/catalysts through real-life experiences. With emphasis on problem solving and innovation, the learning goal for the students was to explore these problems through across-cultural prism using participatory methods.  The area of inquiry identified for this course was sustainability, examined through a cross-cultural prism. Over summer, students from Notre Dame traveled 8,000miles to India to conduct research collaboratively with students from theNational Institute of Design in India. In fall, students from the NationalInstitute of Design, India arrived at Notre Dame to continue examining the same issue in the US. The project sustained over the semester with students working collaboratively with their Indian teammates virtually over Skype.
