Intimacy

Before we are able to achieve intimacy with a person, place, or thing, we
experience 3 states of awareness, comfort and familiarity. In the first state
we experience our own comfort. Once we engage with the person (through
conversation), place(through position), thing(physical interaction), there is
usually an initial level of unfamiliarity or sometimes discomfort. This is a state
that can range anywhere from short uncomfortable feelings of unfamiliarity
to extreme levels of discomfort and uncertainty. Our instincts then prompt
us to either spend more time in this state and continue to approach a level
of intimacy or abandon the experience completely. By spending more and
getting to know the person, place, or thing, we begin to familiarize ourselves
with its existence, feeling, physical appearance, or vibe and our senses tend
to move back toward a less-heightened state. Only by moving past this band
of uncertainty can we begin to achieve intimacy.
