The Effigy Device
This is one of a series of critical design concepts I created for my thesis at CCA.
Inspired by James Auger’s work, the Effigy Device, imagines a portable device with which you could carry a deceased person’s memories. It could also recall any moment of that life at will. I specifically chose to address the afterlife to examine the emotional relationship one might have with objects and what identity meant after death. Would a device like this change the way we view loss? Could it desensitize us to death altogether?
