Will Ryman "America"

Designed for artist Will Ryman based on his sketches, this piece was based on Abraham Lincoln's childhood home and combines goods representing the industrialization of America.

The exterior of the gilded cabin was designed in CAD to be assembled like a traditional log cabin and fabricated from kiln-dried pine. A lot of R&D went into the final gold finish, experimenting with gold chrome and gold leaf before creating a custom blend of fine gold pigment and urethane clearcoat.

The interior of the cabin was created as a separate box within the cabin. Each wall was its own puzzle, covered in a mosaic of gold painted cotton, corn, bullets, iphones and more. Silicone production molds were produced to create the thousands of objects necessary to cover the walls.

Part of the permanent collection at NOMA.
