Etihad comissioned us to design the interiors for their 10 new A380 aircraft. I worked in a small team of 3 people for over three years to design and deliver what would become the “First Apartments” and “The Residence” suites.
Keen to establish themselves as the home of luxury in the sky, there was considerable competition thanks to other airlines in the region, and it was imperative that our solution should set a new paradigm in airline travel.
The scope of the project was huge - to fit the airline’s new “super jumbos” front end upper deck with what would become 9 first class suites and a single VIP suite. Everything would be developed from scratch, including the layout, seat mechanisms and each and every detail within the cabin.
I joined the project early on, at the stage wherein the layout configuration had been decided. I then played a major role in making this a reality, from designing details through to supervising the production.
