The background of this project was to come up with a design for 38 three car electric-multiple-units for Auckland City. I wanted to emulate the unique natural surroundings of the greater Aucland area in the visual design of the rail vehicles.

Bespoke Trains for Auckland City
Investments in public infrastructure can run into the hundreds of millions of dollars. For regional governments and councils it's important that these investments withstand the test of time as they will become landmarks within a city. Public transport in particular is very important, as residents tend to see the transport as much more than a vehicle but part of the city itself. Much like the London underground or the New York City subway, Trains can quickly become an integral part of life in the city. It is important for the vehicles to reflect the visual identity of the city, to make people proud and deter vandalism.
