Russell Lounge Chair

Another personal project, the Russell Lounge Chair was a groundbreaking moment for me. It was 1. The first time I took a research based furniture idea and brought it to life, and 2. Upholstered something so big (gah!).

I can't tell you why, but I love the 1960's and 70's... the culture, music, colors, patterns... it was a revolutionary time. I wanted to incorporate a little bit of that retro soul into my chair design, while still keeping it contemporary.

From the plywood form, foam, and fabric upholstery... I did it all. I made the chair all white, and for the cushion I "upcycled" retro unused "rag rugs" to provide the pop of color the piece needs.

SUPER COMFORTABLE!!! Contours to your body!
