Brief:
Design the replacement of the Pro desk light of Xiaomi, intended for office workers & students.

Strategic design choice:
Choice of an all-aluminium alloy for the product, with aluminium extrusions, die-casting and CNC machining, in order to give a very modern and serious look to the product. But at the same time, trying to minimise costs as much as possible (easiness of production, stable quality for high volumes, compact packaging).
My involvement in this project:

Xiaomi - Pro desk light Featuring typical Xiaomi DNA design, this pro desk light features very sharp lines and minimal radiuses, as well as a white / anodised aluminium combination to display a very minimalistic presence in an office or home desk. The hinges of the rotary shaft and top arm are all designed in a hidden way, which is relevant to the digital products current philosophy. In addition, it makes it easy for consumers to remember the design when exposed to the brand’s communication elements.
Xiaomi - Pro desk light The cable is detachable and uses magnets to ensure a good connectivity. This removable cable system has 2 advantages. It can help to reduce the packaging size (and therefore the costs).
Xiaomi - Pro desk light The pro desk light can easily match an all-white/grey modern office / home decoration, but also a more wood / warm environment (such as the one on this picture).
