I was given the assignment to design a set of coasters and their packaging. The coasters are heptagonal on the top and bottom, offset to create the triangular facets on the sides. I chose to use cast Rockite (concrete and gypsum) because of its smooth finish and weighted feel. Altough an unconventional material for coasters, I wanted these to not only serve the purpose of holding drinks, but to be interesting and beautiful household objects. The packaging and branding were designed to echo the architectural qualities of the coasters, while remaining simple and purposeful in containing the coasters and showing the contents.
