Genderless Apparel

For my self directed senior project I wanted to stay true to my design philosophy. My design philosophy is rooted in three values: innovation, sustainability and social justice. Often times there is a disconnect between a designer and their understanding of individual experiences that exist on a spectrum. I wanted to tackle a specific social issue and create a product around it. My topic was gender, specifically gender neutrality in apparel. Through conducting surveys and doing research, I found that most gender neutral apparel in the market right now have more of a masculine undertone. I wanted to create apparel that better represented both masculine/ feminine trait. Through completely removing laces with the shoe and staying clear of motifs with the book bag, I hope to have achieved gender neutrality fashion in an urban setting.
