This project focused on retail design within a mall setting, using vintage inspirations. I chose to create an Italian Deli without Italian stereotypes. Focusing on 1920s-40s precedents, I created a modern bottega with warmth in every corner. Contrasting marigold-yellow walls with weathered wood floors and a tile mosaic feature cheers up what would otherwise be a bland mall shop. I pressed tin ceiling feature disguises a bulkhead and adds modern drama to old-world charm. The logotype was also designed but in a non-period typeface to add a cheeky element that plays along with the name. Bender was chosen as the right combination of humour and retro to represent Bellacatessen. This project was drafted in Vectorworks (self-taught) after one introductory class. A pop-up model provides the client an interactive way to get a feel for the space they will soon be moving into.
