This spread was part of a proposed redesign for a professional hair care trade magazine. Working within a slim budget, the Art Director wanted a thoroughly visual style. The proposal layouts used cropping, repetition, and dynamic typography to reach that end.

Alone In My Car is an investigation into the social impacts of the Car Culture. For the book, I conceived and implemented each element of the design including format, typography, illustration, and photography. The challenge was to appeal to both academia and a wider popular audience. Type, image, and asymetric application of a multi-unit grid combine to create a classical but dynamic environment.

This half-page piece was designed prospectively to meet the needs of donated ad-space. Nonexistent deadlines, four or single color printing, and varying formats and dimensions were some of the restraints considered. Pictured here is one of the final variations.
