The center was in the midst of a busy commercial area, facing a tall residential building on one side and the road on the other.
The design requirement was for a false ceiling made of fabric, to lend softness to the space, provide a visual element and function as a sound absorber.
Nature and its healing qualitites was taken as a starting reference for the design concept.
Inspiration: Patterns of leaves against the sky. The intention was also to bring in nature as the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre was located on a busy commercial road.
Margosa or 'Neem' (as it is called in India) was selected as the main motive not only for its healing properties much revered by Indians but also for the interesting ripple like patterns its leaf orientation makes against the sky.
Color: The intention was to bring in a freshness to the space and mix both warm and cool colours to achieve this.
A verse by Jelaluddin Rumi was considered while selecting color for the space:
'The morning wind spreads its fresh smell,
We must get up and take that in,
The wind that lets us live,
Breathe before it is gone.'
Left: Implemented ceiing panels in the gym area.
Right: Design compostion and layout of the artwork in the gym are.
The yoga room had a similar art layout, however, warmer hues (peach, pink, etc) from the pallette were used with the greens.
As the clinic was in the midst of a busy road, design elements emphasised nature and serenity.
For the windows, photographs of nature taken during research were used as reference. Windows on one side faced a tall residential building, while the other, a road. Windows facing the road also had a lot of direct sunlight coming in during the day.
The screens used for the windows facing the building were slightly opaque, to allow privacy and not visually disturb the space.
The screens used for the windows which allowed a lot of sunlight, played with the idea of opaque and translucence, using opaque print in leaf forms on a light transluscent fabric.
Window screens were printed with a tone on tone concept, continuing the leaf and natural theme. Sunlight was strong and incident on one side of the window, making the design visible.
