In this assignment you are to use a camera and photograph your neighborhood.
Keep your shooting limited to a 2 block area.
Shoot one roll of 24 exposures black and white film
Really focus on the specific characteristics of where you live: What makes your neighborhood unique?
What does your neighborhood say about the culture we live in: Los Angeles and Venice, race, heritage, history, values, social and economic class, urban/suburban environment, money, work, recreation, lifestyle etc.
So shoot something that interests you:
• something you notice that you hadn’t noticed before
• something that only appears in your neighborhood
• something that suggests an aspect or quality of your neighborhood
• activities that take place there
What’s in your neighborhood?
What kinds of things happen there?
Who lives there? Are there a lot of people? What kind (racial, rich, middle class, poor?)
Who works there?
What kind of houses or apartments? Are they close together or is there a lot of space?
