I engineered and built Stacked Fountain for Walter Jack Studio with John Hall. Stacked fountain is made from approx. 1200 laser cut profiles of 6mm 304 Stainless Steel. The form is determined by crumpling wire mesh at 1:10 scale and scanning to produce a surface that can be scaled and extruded. The height of the piece is 2800. Large width 2580. Small width 1080. Thickness 150 mm. Slices of the model are taken at 60mm intervals and extruded horizontally. The actual construction of the extruded slice takes the form of a box. Two full width profiles and 16 profiles of 12mm width. These are held together by a combination of dowels and bolts. The dowels reference the individual box. The bolts clamp the box together and also attach and reference the adjoining boxes. The two pieces each have a water pipe running into a 300mm deep weir trough created by openings in the top of the boxes. Water flows from all upper edges of the sculpture and recycled via discreet catch trays.
