The project was created to instil practical knowledge of all Building services and relevant engineering methods and practices required of an Architectural Technologist when designing a building. This includes: heating, cooling, power & data wiring, foul & water surface drainage, ductwork, luminescence and finally the environmental impact of the building.
The chosen building is a two-storey brick & block office building, supported by a pad foundation and a concrete screed. The ground floor is ground-bearing concrete slab floor with DPC & a concrete screed. The First floor is a suspended concrete floor with a suspended ceiling beneath the reinforced concrete floor. The roof composes of reinforced concrete with a 50mm layer of insulation and finished off with a layer of asphalt for weatherproofing. Almost all elevations have vertical pivot sash windows.
