Third Year - Southampton Six Dials Surgery Project

Due to the expansion in inner city housing in St Mary’s area, it is proposed to provide a new primary health care centre for the local population. A site has been proposed to the Health Authority, which currently forms the University’s car park between Northam Road and St Mary’s Street (see site plan provided). The building may be up to two storeys.

Client’s Requirements:
The GPs have requested that the new surgery provides accommodation for the following group practice staff:

6 doctors plus trainee GP
5 receptionists
Practice manager
2 practice nurses
3 District nurses/Health visitors/district midwives

Design
The form of the building should be designed with particular concern for the problems of daylight, overlooking and privacy. It should not overshadow adjoining properties. The design may be traditional, domestic scale or modern, innovative in style. You have a free choice over materials; however you will need to justify your decisions.
