ASU - Fire In My Eyes

Students at Arizona State University's (ASU) Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts Interior Design program begin their studies learning about domestic abuse from clients and staff with the City of Phoenix Family Advocacy Center (FAC). The students then are challenged to design and build a chair that is both inspired by an artist or artistic movement and makes a statement about the impact of domestic violence on families. The Southwest Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) lends its professional talent and financial support through a scholarship awarded to the winning design team.
The students are given the challenge of designing and building the chairs with a budget of $100 plus donations. This project increases awareness about domestic violence and the support offered by the Family Advocacy Center. It is particularly important to the students and is their way of giving back to the community through creative design.
