Community First: Tustin Estate Masterplan

The project seeks to show the value of modernist housing estates and the community that inhabits them by proposing an exemplar estate regeneration scheme that avoids wholescale demolition and retains the community on site through the process. . A new elevated public route weaves through new and existing buildings across an existing parking structure, creating new green spaces and seating areas around them.

Three existing tower blocks are retained and refurbished, with infill walls being removed, new extensions bolted on to expand the space, improve thermal performance and maximise natural light. New community facilities are provided to meet residents needs and the desires of future neighbours: a meeting hall that also serves as a worship space, a new GP surgery and most prominently a library and youth centre for the wider community.
