The Grain Mummy

While researching the ancient Egyptian collection, NCMA Egyptologist Caroline Rocheleau discovered through analytical observation—and confirmed using medical technologies—that an object in the Museum’s collection once thought to be a falcon mummy is, in fact, a grain mummy. Working under Exhibition Designer Ren Waung, we told the story of a small artifact with the help of large graphics and a central case highlighed by a scrim. I enhanced a small historical heiroglyph painting to fill a wall yet maintain authenticity, and designed a scrim with a translucent glyph for "grain" and an opaque panel with the exhibit's title.
