POP-UP HANDSFREE -Although most people buying a phone are provided with a hands-free device, only 5.4% use it regularly. Sometimes, people can’t notice that someone has a hands-free kit, and they think that the person is talking to no one. This is one of the reasons that people feel uncomfortable using a hands-free. Inspired by the nowadays online communication media, pop-up is a hands-free concept that makes the user’s conversation visible, so people can notice that the person is talking on the phone. In this way, the user feels more comfortable, because it doesn’t look like speaking to no one. The pop-up hands-free has an aesthetic inspired by the pop-up message bubble, a visual message that is easy recognizable by almost everyone.
Wirio is a futuristic cooking device concept presented for the Electrolux Design Lab Competition. Available in four detachable units, “Wirio” mobile cooking cables cook and warm food and beverages wherever you are. Similar to a tape measure, you simply pull out the cable from a small, bracelet-shaped unit and arrange it to fit the size and shape of the object being warmed, like a pot or cup of coffee. The unit displays the temperature level, which is controlled by sliding your finger over the display area. The polymer-based, eco-friendly cables are protected by thermal insulation so that they don’t affect the surface beneath them when they are hot. Creative types can have fun arranging the cables into shapes like flowers and hearts! The cables are automatically cleaned and sanitized when they’re zipped back into the unit. Wirio was listed as one of the top 25 best Electrolux Design Lab 2009 projects
UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATOR -A recent survey shows that the numbers of people suffering from hearing disabilities is growing fast, and by the year 2050 there will be over 50 milions deaf people. People suffering from hearing and/or speaking disabilities are facing difficulties concerning communication with other people as most people are not familiar with the sign language. When a deaf/mute person wishes to communicate with a blind person, the sign language cannot be used. Universal communicator is a device destined to enable the communication between people suffering from hearing, speaking or sight disabilities in the near future. The device acts like a translator, converting sign language into text and audio messages, and voice into written text. The system also recognises some of the the sounds around the user (for example the ambulance sound or the horn from the car), warning the user with vibrations and showing different symbols on the screen.
