luma - Somewhere between a person and an object lies a realm of poetic possibility. My partner and my exploration of this realm guided us to a beautiful and useful home accessory: luma. luma is an illuminating device designed to bring mobile light to any room, office or home. luma encourages task-centric unity or division of space through lighting, and brings an organic and intuitive aesthetic into the domain of home fashion. The ability for the user to bring light with them wherever they go creates a sense of unity between person and object, and allows for a seamless transition between utility and art. After charging on its base, luma can be taken anywhere. It can remain on its "stem" and act as a cordless floor lamp, or its pouch can be removed and used as a hand-held light source.
tashka - Carl Jung was a psychologist who developed theories on the human psyche and how it can be broken down into a variety of archetypes, which categorize a person’s intuitive tendencies and the way in which they experience things. Through definition and personal interpretation of the Extravert Intuitive Jungian archetype a set of semantic goals was established; these goals supported the design of a small personal container. The objective was to develop a list of criteria based on descriptive words embodying the personality type and apply them through design language.
plica - Plica is a diapering / lifestyle bag designed to cater to the frequently overlooked market between commodity and luxury diapering & maternity products. Plica begins as a bag for mothers during a baby's diapering stage, but can be turned into a sling bag through simple removal of the "baby" (bottom) portion of the bag. Additionally, when the child becomes older, this part of the bag can be removed and turned inside out to form a small backpack, ideal for carrying toys and snacks. Plica was developed based on extensive contextual and comparative research, and was created in constant cooperation with mothers, fathers and children.
workflows / interaction design - At my previous job, I refurbished and simplified engineering and process workflows for broadcast industry training material. In collaboration with technical writers and broadcast engineers, I was able to utilize Interaction Design and Usability principles in the execution of this work, allowing for a cohesive and successful final training product.
zumosaur - Zumosaur is a juicer design based on an evaluation of problems in an existing, commodity-market electric citrus juicer. During zumosaur's creation, my primary concerns were ergonomics, a small footprint, cord storage and improved aesthetic appeal. Zumosaur's form was derived from the findings of an ergonomic study, where it was determined that a 45 degree reamer (juicer) angle was the most comfortable for all users.
