We were each randomly assigned a flower that was native to the Czech Republic and instructed to design a costume that demonstrated the character or essence of the flower. I was assigned the "drosera rotundifolia", a tiny carnivorous plant with round leaves, out of which grow many small red stalks tipped with drops of sticky, sweet liquid designed to attract and subsequently entrap and devour passing insects.
My costume featured a literal translation of the leaves, but the plant was turned upside-down so that they formed a large, dramatic collar. The central stalk became a narrow, loincloth-esque skirt which faded from burgundy to green to represent the stem and the bud.

Photo shoot in Prague botanical gardens with the photography studio in which we modeled our own designs. (The final costume featured hand-dyed skirt, unfortunately this was omitted by the photographer)

One of five final drawings (three summer, two winter) for Fashion Illustration. My theme for all five was sci-fi.
