The Gujarati lipi or script, is one of the modern scripts of India, and has descended from Brahmi (the oldest script used in India). Like many other Indian languages Gujarati was derived from the Devanagari script during the 16th century. The only major difference between Gujarati and Devanagari is the lack of the top horizontal bar in Gujarati. And in accordance with all the other Indic scripts, Gujarati is written from left to right, and is not case-sensitive.

Owing to the fact that Gujaratis have settled in the remotest corners of the world, it is a language spoken and written by many.
