I created the layout in Photoshop - using existing athlete's photos (cut them out/manipulated/etc) and plugging in different types of generic sports data in order to show the client what I was thinking. He requested something almost exactly like IMDB.com - so this is what I gave him. Client was interested in getting a visual on how much of the space on the page could be used for ad revenue. The reason I created the background with the basketball finals logo (something I borrowed) and the players (I cut them out of pictures and sized them into opposing corners of the page) was to demonstrate how many sites like imdb.com are now offering their entire backdrop/page wrapper as one big Ad Spot. The Kindle Fire shows an ad spot as well. I included "sponsored by" text underneath some of the page modules to show all of the different ways (text, graphic block ad, backdrop/wrapper ad, etc.) a website like this can offer ad space and generate ad revenue.

Web Design - Interactive Sports Database Site

Client wanted as close of a layout to IMDB as I could get but for a sports database website.
