October, 2010 cover - I conceived a direction for a precision ag story that was built around three farmers, each with increasingly more complex and expensive levels of investment that used vintage baseball as a visual motif. The newest "player" was given the title of "Batter Up", the second player was "On Second" and the last was a "Grand Slam". The cover introduced the reader to the theme of the story using a photo realistically rendered baseball scoreboard set in a corn field.

The opening layout mimicked the cover. - Five page story about the theft of farm equipment, chemicals and other products. Illustration by Paul Lange (Paul's Art Barn) of Illinois.
April, 2011 - This is the version used in the iPad edition. The only difference between it and the print version is that there is no mailing label area and it's been filled in with the "Machinery As An Investment" story.
One of three covers that were voted on by our readers for the Special Summer Issue, 2010 - This is the first cover I've done for Successful Farming that has a person (even though anonymous) since I took over.

Cover for our double gatefold story on customing barns. - I am employed full time at the best job I've had in 13 years. My EIC, Loren Kruse has been the perfect partner for creating an environment that fostered radical change without upheaval or hurt feelings among the staff. Successful Farming is 108 years old and having its best financial years ever and it continues to be a solid earner during the worst down turns in publishing history.
