A Backdrop in Taupe

A Backdrop in Taupe is an interior design of a 4-bedroom apartment of 2,100 ft2 for an elderly couple and their live-in helper.

As a design strategy to create a more intimate scale, a ‘wall’ running the full length of the apartment was introduced to divide the unit into two halves. This ‘wall’ holds together, conceals and tucks away the Kitchen, Powder Room and storage spaces. It makes invisible the many doors leading to these spaces giving a sense of intimate scale to this otherwise large apartment for a few occupants.

Rendered in taupe, this ‘wall’ referenced the colour of the building which the apartment is nestled within for contextual relationship.
