The public entrance of the Passenger Terminal 1 at Varna Airport on landside combines the entrance of Departure and the exit of Arrival. This is the connection point between the public parking space and the inner space of the building - the north façade which is facing the passengers, giving them the first impression of the building.
Various options have been considered, some of which are following the proportions of the façade, while others are using the contrast as a tool.
The proposed concept is a new canopy structure, wrapping the two excising canopies of Departure and Arrival. In contrast to the straight and rigid structure of the building, the new canopy resembles a wave. The light and free form of the wave brings the sense of summer and relax.
