Structura

This project was not only an exploration into lighting design, but also an investigation into digital fabrication and structure. Multiples of two basic shapes were laser cut out of Plexiglass sheets and then heat bent over form-work. These shapes were then pin
connected into an array, which as a whole, creates a shape that is plastic and moveable. The concept and structure could be applied in numerous ways, but for this project the array was formed into a circle and serves as a form that interacts with a light source. Light is cast on its internal faces and creates cast shadows on surrounding surfaces. Many of the lamp construction pieces and internal parts were designed and fabricated with the laser cutter as well. Now that production methods, digital file templates, and form-work have been established, a single person could produce this design within a day.
