The homepage for the Chemical Biology Division features news updates, and I link to the division's Facebook page, which I set up. I selected a dozen high resolution photographs from the Flickr Creative Commons pool to rotate randomly as the page header image. See the live site -- http://chembio.chem.wisc.edu
I used the Drupal event content type to document upcoming seminars, and the calendar module to display them. I also created a list view of the seminars to make it easier to see the long-term schedule.
I wrote most of the copy that's displayed on the site based on some initial documentation from the steering committee. My goal was to create a site that was friendly to both the prospective graduate students, and students currently enrolled in the program. With this page I wanted to clearly define the degree requirements for each year of study so students could use it as a checklist to stay on track.
I created a custom content type for faculty members, including a field to identify their associated research areas. Then I created Drupal views for All Faculty and the individual research areas.
I took the photos of a division social event and created the collage of students on this page. It was important to create a page listing the students in the division to help create a sense of community.
I created this slide to include in an introductory presentation to incoming chemistry graduate students to help advertise the new division. I used one of the header images from the site to tie the designs together.

Chemical Biology Division Website

The Chemical Biology Division of the UW-Madison Chemistry Department was inaugurated while I was a graduate student. My advisor was on the initial steering committee and asked me to develop the website. The department uses Drupal 7 as their CMS, so that's what I used to construct the site.
