My career path took a few twists and turns before I figured out exactly what I wanted to do.
First, I thought I would be a chemist. But while I found the topic of chemistry fascinating, I discovered that labwork was tedious and frustrating.
I have always enjoyed teaching, so I thought I would take my knowledge of chemistry and become a professor. After teaching at my alma mater, I realized that the formal setting of academia just wasn't for me.
Unsure where to turn next, I took a job in Quality Assurance at a healthcare IT company. In my role I tested complex development, coordinated projects across teams, organized the QA Division Meeting, developed and taught several classes, and designed creative new interfaces.
Working on an enterprise software application introduced me to user experience and interaction design. Fields that I realized I want to dig in to as a career.
User experience is about more than what a user sees, it's also what they think and feel while interacting with the design.
