The homepage of the site featuring a graphic describing the group's research, a photo of current members, and select posters and journal covers. The site was created in Drupal 7 using a free theme with some manipulation of the theme CSS. See the live site -- http://stahl.chem.wisc.edu
The graphic on the homepage went through several iterations before a decision was reached. I personally preferred the final iteration, design "C", but Prof. Stahl preferred design "A" with some adjustments, which became design "D".
The Stahl group has a large number of meetings to keep track of, and they had been doing so with a manually updated Word document that had to be redistributed after each update to the schedule. Since all of the group members already used Google calendars to schedule their experiments, I created a set of calendars for their recurring meetings. This way everyone could instantly see changes to the schedule, and it was much easier for the student creating the schedule to maintain. Win-win-win.
Creating the architecture to maintain and display the group's publications was a fun challenge. First, I created a custom content type in Drupal with discrete fields to capture the individual citation parameters (authors, title, journal, pages, image, etc.). Next, I created a Drupal view to concatenate the fields and format the citation. This improved the overall consistency of the presentation and made it easier for students with no web design experience to update the site.
In addition to the citation parameters, I also created a field to capture the appropriate research topic for each publication. Then I created a separate view that allows site visitors to browse articles by topic instead of just the chronological view.
The entry form I created for new Publication entries. I included help text for each field so new administrators could quickly enter the correct information. All of the formatting is handled by the Drupal view before it is displayed on the Publications page.

Stahl Group Website

Professor Shannon Stahl at UW-Madison commissioned me to update his research group's website. The Chemistry Department was transitioning all sites to Drupal 7, and the site needed to be translated from simple HTML documents. The goal was to create a clean, professional looking site that could be easily maintained by students in the group. Time was a constraint as the new site needed to be ready before the graduate student recruiting weekend. See the live site -- http://stahl.chem.wisc.edu
