Maasto -
Maasto is designed together with Veera Hyvärinen
Maasto is a public space furniture. We took the modularity idea and put it through a new playful re-thinking.
Maasto is built from upholstered modular pieces and metal legs. The legs lock the modules together.
The system contains 7 different modules. By matching the different modules together it is possible to easily create interesting shapes. You can have either a normal seat or a cosy lounge seat.
We tried to combine modern simplicity and organic qualities and think we succeeded.
Loimaa -
Loimaa Caprack is a childs own rack for clothes, caps etc.
When you are too small to use adults’ hatrack and coatracks it’s nice to have your own one. It is even twice as nice when the rack is fun to use and it looks cool.
The core of the design is an idea developed years ago. It was included in one of the first products I designed at school. Therefore the idea has been tested and proven excellent. This Spring I decided to develope it in to a real product. I think the idea would be a good core for a children’s product.
While designing the product I had six requirements in my mind: innovative, exciting, fun, working, safe, industrial.
Safety was especially in my mind because when something is designed for kids safety is the priority. Product has to be safe for both kids and adults. A round shape is exciting and cool but it also reduces the risk of people bruising themselves.
Also efficient industrial manufacturing was a important design goal. Less parts, less costs.
Muuri -
As a design muuri is a traditional partition wall. The new thing is the surface material and the production methods.
Plateau - The modularity idea is basic: each module is square so that they can be combined freely. The system is based on four separate modules: L-modules, I-modules, 0-modules and dot-modules. The possible combinations are numerous.
It is possible to combine modules in a different kind of sofas, lounge seaters, benches.
The shape is solid and heavy, almost geometrical. This strong shape is softened with curves. The curves also create the character of modules.
Each module is free-standing and can be used as a seat. When the modules are combined, for example as a three-seater, the extra legs can be removed.
Hollanti - Hollanti is a small easy chair for public spaces. It has a strong - almost aggressive shape.
