Calphalon Skillet

Problem: Through our user testing and research we found that people often use their electric skillet as a griddle, do not know where to place the lid, and touch the skillet to tell if it has cooled down.
Solution: This electric skillet design that doubles as a griddle, has built in lid rack, and an alert for when the skillet/griddle is cool.
Impact: This provides a safer more convenient alternative to current skillets and is able to provide more features without adding material or cost.

Brief: We worked with an interdisciplinary team of designers and engineers in our sponsored project with Calphalon to design an electric skillet. The electric skillet had to adhere to the Calphalon design guidelines and uphold the brand identity of consistency and quality. Our team focused on getting more functionality while using less materials and cutting cost. The ideation led to a design that can be flipped and used as both a skillet and
a griddle.
