Olea Chair and Lounge - 2015

The Olea range of compact lounges was an in-house initiated project for Workspace Commercial Furniture.

My starting point was a request from our sales team to have a timber range of chairs with a Scandinavian aesthetic.

Inspiration was drawn from traditional woodworking techniques as well as mid century techniques such as bending laminated veneers.

Sketches, 3D models and prototypes were undertaken, before the final design was arrived at.

The simplicity of Olea is in the details. The backrest has one single sew line and the cushions have no sewing and float on the monoshell. The legs are universal and the frame is symmetrical in both the front and right planes.

Olea was recognised as a stand out design in the 2015 Laminex DIA South Australian design awards with a Silver award in the Object category.
