Any number of units can be assembled into a near-infinite number of combinations.
Here, the modules are aligned into an open case built as both a holder and, once opened flat, a play surface.
Both the black and white flat surfaces are equipped with "rails" that fit the modules' keyways.

TOY DESIGN: Modular Men
"Handheld Humans" are modular toys that interconnect on two axes in multiple permutations since they each have multiple connection point (arms, legs, hips, torso, head).
This bi-colour set of eight -- with mounting base for play and storage -- were designed and crafted as a Christmas gift for my nephew.
