Under Ground Above Ground - The subway and the urban environment have intrigued me since I moved to New York. I have been watching the homeless people that occupy some of the stations. I wanted to photograph and illustrate how the world might be seen by them. Underground being safe and warm and above ground as the hostile world that belongs to us, the have-homes. A poem by Ann Salwey about us wishing the homeless weren't there runs through the whole book. No glue was used and all photographs are stitched in by hand.
