Coastal Empire Fairgrounds: Restoration and Redevelopment - Cyrk Savannah was my thesis project. In abstract, the project includes reusing valuable urban space, redeveloping it with modern structures, and redefining the prgram to include more year-round proraming. Working closely with the city and the fair association members, new ideas were drawn for the future of this site.
Children's Cultural Center - The concept for this project was the Bible scripture of the Tower or Babel. The story concludes with the lesson that a single world-wide nation is bad and a world of diverse cultures and languages is good.
The design of the CCC includes several individual cultural "huts" and a terminace at a hexagonal amphitheater with five light towers.
Savannah Commons: Waterfront Development - This studio project proposed a solution for the eastward growth of historic Savannah, GA. The concept is derived from total integration with the existing city and its infrastructure. The new stuctures include mixed-use, residential, commercial, hotels and civic buildings, including a new inter-modal transportation depot for the city.
Starland Apogee: Creamatorium and Funeral Home - Ap'o'gee: [n.] a final climatic stage
The concept for this building is a redefinition of how humans percieve death and the "American" burial rituals.
This studio project included researching MEP systems integration between a new structure and an exsiting one.
Milton Jackson Jazz Institute - An urban infill project, this building utilizes the shell of an existing historic building and a full city block of available space.
The Institutue's form is derived from the movement and patterns of sound waves and the metaphor of Jazz's history in the South. Sculptural "chords" reach out into the community inviting people to enjoy the public garden area and the educational spaces within the building.
