Transcultural Design
Feb-May 2013

Born in China, I came from a culture where sex education between parents and children is oftentimes missing. In Transcultural Design class at Institute of Design, I challenged myself to talk to American parents about how they give “The Talk” to children, and was surprised to find that the topic is by nature an uneasy one.

There is a tension between how little “the talk” is given, and how prevalent children are exposed to sexual topics through mass media in US. To help researchers, designers, or even parents in general to understand the tension around the talk, and to be open to it instead of avoiding it, I designed this Jenga style game. It’s a game that intends to provoke conversations, thoughts, and storytelling around those awkward, embarrassing but whereas unavoidable moments.
