New Paths Forward

Today, Buffalo New York is reconnecting to nature through rediscovered pathways. The greatest rediscovery lies on the DL&W corridor, a relic of the city’s industrial might that is set to become Buffalo’s natural oasis—a corridor for people and wildlife that offers respite through nature and serves the community. The corridor will be used year-round with a sledding hill, skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter and bicycling, walking, skating, and jogging in warmer months. The trail must be inviting and visually intriguing throughout the changing seasons.

The corridor is planted with trees flowering in spring and native plants with unique textures that are aesthetically appealing in winter. Interpretive gardens scattered throughout the corridor attract wildlife
and provide educational opportunities and partnerships with organizations in the community.
