The temperature in the mountains of Guatemala drops significantly at night, sometimes even below freezing. This makes the homes located in those areas extremely cold at night. Many people living there thus develop respiratory problems from breathing in cold air all night for years. Unfortunately, currently there’s no sustainable method to solve the problem. Therefore, we hope to develop a cheap, effective and sustainable solution to solve the problem and eventually teach the residents the way to solve the problem by themselves and make improvement to the solution.
My contributions:
• Came up with the idea of sewing cotton panels sewn together and filled with fillers installed on to the windows to help insulate the houses better
• Created a sketch a design and manufacturing plan with teammates
• Fabricated and tested the window covers with different cover and filling materials under different conditions
• Performed multiple tests on different prototypes
