Objective: In 2011, I designed the first front-side serviceable LED pool waterfall. This was a game-changing product for the pool industry because these waterfalls are typically installed buried in concrete, rock, or brick, making it impossible to gain access to any electronics from the top or the rear without an unsightly hatch. Despite its popularity, there was strong demand for a version that could be cut to match more organic pool designs. How can we redesign this product to allow for custom cut curves while maintaining current performance and front-side serviceability?

Brilliant Wonders® LED Waterfall 2

The Brilliant Wonders® LED Waterfall 2 is a redesign of the first LED waterfall for swimming pools that was serviceable after installation in the concrete wall. The original was well received, but there was strong demand for a new version that could be cut to match more organic pool designs. For the Brilliant Wonders LED Waterfall 2 the LED strip was moved from the front to the rear and the side channels completely redesigned to allow for custom cuts across the front lip. In each side channel are sliding "drawers" that provide access to the electrical connector for servicing/replacing the LED strip. The sliding drawers are hollow and can be cut along with the front of the waterfall. The exposed cavity in the sliding drawer can be capped with plastic covers included with the product or can be filled with grout, plaster, etc. to match the pool walls. The patented sawtooth pattern in the lip provides controlled turbulence to improve the lighting effect in the water stream.
