Textile Designer - National Institute of Design
I am a graduate (equivalent to Bachelor of Design) of the Textile Design discipline at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India. I have keen interest in various techniques related with textile design, such as print designing, fabric construction, dyeing, and weaving. Detailed and intricate work inspires me the most. Available for freelance projects.
My diploma project was associated with ‘Saranath’, who are Manufacturers of Handloom Silk Sarees in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu which are sold in the market as Kanjeevaram saris. The saris reflect the skill of more than 100 crafts people employed by Saranath. The diploma project was about developing a collection of saris which are rooted in the hand-loom clusters of Kumbakonam, Kanchipuram, Salem etc. It was a challenge to sustain the traditional weaving and understand technical limitations of the weaver in the contemporary scenario.
There is a collection of 11 saris which has been developed during this project. The objective of the collection was to design saris in terms of different concepts for Saranath’s client Nalli. Further each concept was explored to create variation in terms of layout, design and color.
The two months internship at Vaishali Design Studio (VDS) was a great learning experience of working in a fully equipped setup & backed by qualified, professional and skilled team. VDS is a One stop shop solution for the design needs of HOME TEXTILES & HOME DÉCOR industry in both international and domestic market since 1997. Started by VAISHALI SINHA who specialized in textiles from National Institute of Design, Ahemdabad in 1992. A set of cushions were developed for the exclusive design brand "V Living" during the course of internship.
A print project taking inspiration from Leheria, a traditional style of tie dye practiced in Rajasthan, India that results in brightly colored cloth with distinctive patterns. The technique gets its name from the Rajasthani word for wave because the dyeing technique is often used to produce complex wave patterns.
