I've been freelancing since January 2007 when, at the age of 26, I started my own company A.Olander Illustration. Only a month in I had my first big client from USA and has since mostly worked with clients abroad.

I also do art. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at :

Be Cool gallery in Rome, Italy (2008), Corey Helford Gallery LA, USA (2008), Friends of Leon Gallery in Sydney, Australia (2011) and solo show at Hellion Gallery (2012).

More recent ventures have seen my illustrations adorn everything from the iPad skins to iPhone apps, from artisanal chocolates to runways in Italy.

Education

Study Abroad Arts, Illustration and Design

University of Newcastle, Australia

2003 - 2004

I was a study abroad in Newcastle, Australia where I first decided I wanted to be a comicartist but the teachers encouraged me to try illustration. Best choice of my life. I came back to Sweden and decided to start my own company. At the time I could not afford a degree so I settled for learning the basics during a year. Since then, life's school and the experience I have working with many amazing big brands has kept me on my toes and forever learning and evolving.
Basic Year art

Basis artschool Stockholm

2001 - 2001

I did one semester at the much experienced and loved art school "Basis" in Stockholm. A lot of artists who wish to apply to Konstfack and other art schools usually do a couple of semesters there in order to prepare for the hard tests of the artworld. Early on I decided art school was not for me as it focused mostly on creativity and less on techniques (which was the opposite of what I felt I had, and what I wanted to learn) so I found other ways to learn the techniques I wanted to learn and never had a problem with my creativity. It's there. It always will be. Blessing and a curse :)

Swedish illustrator and artist Anneli Olander Berglund grew up in a small town, deep in the thickly forested, copper-rich Swedish province of Värmland — and later found happiness in the poetic and coffee sipping urban jungle of Stockholm.

She has been freelancing since January 2007 when, at the age of 26, she started her own company A.Olander Illustration. Her favourite quote is “I didn’t make it because I was the best- I made it because I couldn’t afford to lose”.

Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at :

Olander’s illustrations combine a lush painterly sensibility with a darkly playful take on girlish fun and the remixing of fantasy with the everyday.

Stardoll

2009 - 2013 (4 years)

As a Stardoll employee I was working full time illustrating items, virtual paperdolls, and virtual shops for the site, as well as eventually switching to working in the app team and later the Licensing team translating the online designs to fit actual products. Along with my co-worker we came to be in charge of designing the brand guidelines for the licensing brands. Stardoll is no longer the company name, it has changed direction and name since after I went back to freelancing life.
