Freehand Drawing:
Utilize drawing as a means of visual communication. Developing freehand drawing skills for interior design applications is the focus of the program.
Create perspective (express principles of descriptive geometry), drawings, interior renderings (demonstrate elements and principles of design composition), quick freehand sketches of interiors and/or furniture using:
-various drawing mediums, including pencil and ink
-different drawing techniques
Convey depth in a drawing through the use of shade and shadow.
Create drawings showing the relationship between negative and positive space.
Record images quickly in simple line drawings

Design Theory:
Intro to visual perception and conceptualization. Discover & apply the fundamentals of design (elements vs. principles), the design process and creative thinking through lectures, discussion and studio exploration.
Developing an awareness of the fundamentals of design and its application within our environment. Theories pertaining to perception and human factors will be explored including proxemics, anthropometrics and ergonomics.
Identify, define and illustrate the elements and principles of design.
Analyze interior design projects to check the implementation of the elements and principles of design.
State the regulatory bodies for the interior design field.
Create a journal/sketchbook to record information, showing design awareness and use relevant design vocabulary in work.
Analyze illustrations that pertain to concept development in interior design.
Explain the steps in the design process.
Identify theories pertaining to perception and human factors.

Design and develop own 3D and 2D objects (families) from provided templates.
Incorporate functions (eg. error trapping, and nesting).

Primarily intended for those students who plan to pursue careers in durable building construction, building problem diagnosis, testing of construction assemblies, new materials research and development, and environmental challenges in creating the built environment.
